Abacas Studios was started in 1998 by John Casey who had been a sign maker by trade for many years. John was one of the first sign makers to embrace the new digital print technology, buying one the first Roland Digital print and cut machines sold in the UK. Abacas was a significant departure for John, he saw the potential for producing small runs of full colour stickers much more economically than previously possible. Abacas Studios and their web brand name Abalabels started at the same time that Google started to gain prominence in the search engine e-commerce way of doing business. The company grew rapidly and by the time John retired in 2006, had a firm foothold in the market for producing digitally printed vinyl stickers. The current Directors, Rita and Howard Whitmore moved Abacas Studios to Milton Keynes in November 2006 where it continues to flourish.
Today, Abacas still produces small runs of vinyl stickers using Roland Inkjet printers although capacity is eight times what it was in 2006. We also produce specialist long run stickers using the latest HP Indigo digital print technology and retain screen print production for spot colour work.
